Iran new 2,000,000 rials cheque
The cheque in question P-154C; B-291.5 is a 2,000,000 rials denomination (US$47.50; €40.84). It features a color scheme of light blue and green and measures 160 x 75 mm. The front side displays an image of the Karoun 3 dam, while the back side has both English and Farsi text, calligraphic text of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and an Islamic design of a flower.
The cheque comes with several security features, including a windowed security thread with a demetalized 2000000, as well as a solid security thread with printed Farsi script. The cheque is printed by TAKAB and has a watermark of Ferdowsi (Hakīm Abu’l-Qasim Firdawsī Tūsī) and an electrotype denomination. Its introduction took place in 2023, and it bears the signature of Mazaheri.
Note: The proposed launch of a 2,000,000-rial cheque in October 2008 was called off when Mahmoud Bahmani assumed the role of governor of the bank that same year, succeeding Tahmasb Mazaheri who was removed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in September. Nevertheless, the aforementioned cheque was ultimately put into circulation in 2023.
